Greater Brockport Chamber of Commerce celebrates excellence

Outgoing Chamber president Marie Bell was presented with an award for ably leading the Chamber over the past three years.  She in turn thanked previous president Elaine Bader for her efforts at maintaining the Chamber’s viability over a difficult time period.

Ted Habgood, manager of Brockport’s 5 Star Bank, presented the Business of the Year Award to Jim Alderson of Sunnking. Habgood mentioned the many young people that Sunnking has sponsored through jobs and internships.

The Beautification Award was presented by Tracey Plummer to Alison Andrews of Arjuna Florists for the ever-changing and beautiful windows that enhance Main Street.

Dr. Jeremy Bateman presented The Alan S. Bader Community Service Award to Steve Appleton. Appleton originated the “Cool Kids” program in Brockport and continues to expand its innovative “kids” (ages 2-92) entertainment and environmental efforts.

Appleton is the dynamic, creative and charismatic force, which has managed to find funding even during dry periods and expand the program beyond Brockport.  He thanked BISCO and some of the many sources of help he has had over the years.

Finally, Marie Bell presented a gift to the incoming president Robin Waller who, she feels confident, will do a fine job of working on behalf of the Chamber and its members.

The banquet, held at Pinewood Country Club, provided an opportunity not only to recognize deserving chamber members but also to help in networking with community leaders, including local political leaders and College representatives as well as promote the importance and interests of community businesses.

The Chamber supports most major local endeavors such as the Arts Festival, the Food Shelf, the Toy Shelf, the canal opening, the Fire Department, Seymour Library and more.
