Anyone that does not wear a seat belt is risking serious injury or death. That is why the Ogden Police Department will participate in the Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign from May 23 through June 5. The Department will fund this campaign through a Police Traffic Services Grant that was awarded by the NYS Governor’s Highway Traffic Safety Committee.
During the enforcement period, officers will observe a “zero-tolerance” approach for all vehicle occupants who fail to comply with the State seat belt regulations. The New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law requires the use of seat belts by:
•All front seat occupants regardless of age.
•All rear seat passengers under age 16.
•All children under four years old must be secured in a federally approved child safety seat.
•Children ages four through their eighth birthday must be properly secured in an appropriate child-restraint system, one that meets the child’s height and weight recommendations according to the child restraint manufacturer.
