Churchville-Riga Chamber of Commerce enlists students to create new logo

Students in this year’s Digital Imaging class were given a unique assignment: to design a new logo for the Greater Churchville-Riga Chamber of Commerce. Under the direction of art teacher Jon Woodard, 13 students took on the task. It provided a real-world opportunity for students to work with a client and create a usable product.

Students met with Chamber members to gather information and then designed draft logos for their review and feedback.

“The opportunity for the students to work on a real world project allowed them to interact with the material in authentic ways. From the initial brief from the client through brainstorming, collaboration, design, many refinements, multiple client changes throughout the process and a final selection critique made for a meaningful and valuable experience,” said Woodard.

On June 7, members from the Chamber attended the Digital Imaging class to announce which student’s logo was selected. They also provided the students with t-shirts donning the new logo. The final design selected was created by junior Rachel Kuhn.

“Rachel did an amazing job incorporating all of the elements that we believe make Churchville and Riga a great place to live,” said Chamber Board President Sue Davis.

The logo will now be displayed in windows of the businesses that are part of the Chamber as well as on all Chamber letterhead and marketing materials.
