Erie Canal posters on display throughout Brockport

One hundred fourth grade students in Brockport’s Hill Elementary School entered the Erie Canal Poster Contest this year.  The contest is run by the Walk/Bike Brockport Action Group in conjunction with the annual Low Bridge High Water Festival. This year the festival is being held May 11 through 13.

The fourth graders study New York state history including the Erie Canal and their posters depict scenes along the canal.  Local artists Alicia Fink, Lori Skoog and Helen Smagorinsky chose the winning posters which are displayed in A Different Path Gallery on Market Street.

The winning posters are as follows: First place – Raelin Gingrich; second place – Landon Scott; third place – John Crocetta. Honorable mentions include Koi Gilbert, Derek Tarwacki and Mason Schram.

First, second and third place winners will get gift certificates to the Lift Bridge Book Shop. All six winners will receive posters signed by Helen Smagorinsky and donated by Trustee/Deputy Mayor Bill Andrews.  Prizes will be awarded by Mayor Margay Blackman on Saturday, May 13, at the Welcome Center between 11 a.m. and noon.

To see all ninety-four posters, visit the following merchants’ windows: Adore Hair Studio, Arjuna, BeBe Mills, Bicycle Outfitters, Bittersweet, Coleen’s Café, Java Junction, Jimmy Z’s, Lift Bridge Book Shop, My Nails, Next Level, Red Bird Café and Gift Shop, The Stewart Insurance Agency and Brockport Village Hall.
