Clarkson’s pharmaceutical collection event a success

The Community Mobile Pharmaceutical Collection held in Clarkson on October 1 was a great success. Organizer Jackie Smith stated, “We saw 145 cars come through and collected over 600 pounds of items. It was great to hear how happy residents were to have an event like this so close to home.”

The event provided the community with an opportunity to properly dispose of their pharmaceuticals, helping with the prevention of drug addictions, overdoses, and contamination of waterways. “We would like to thank the Monroe County Dept of Environmental Services and the Monroe County Sheriff’s in helping us make this happen for our community,” Smith said.

Clarkson partnered with the Towns of Sweden and Hamlin, and the Village of Brockport, along with local health organizations to get word of the event out to the entire community.

For those who missed this event, there are pharmaceutical drop off locations throughout Monroe County that provide a safe way to dispose of unused or unwanted medications. A complete list of locations can be found at https://www.monroecounty.gov/ecopark/pharmaceutical.php. This service is free to residents.
