Sweden Community Foundation to build gazebo at Sweden Town Park dedicated to Willie Sweeting

The Sweden Community Foundation, continuing in its quest to enhance the Sweden Town Park, will be raising funds for a gazebo near the Town of Sweden Lodge. It will be dedicated in memory of Willie Sweeting (1944-2018), lifelong resident and recreation advocate in the Town of Sweden. An outstanding high school athlete at Brockport High School, Sweeting owned and operated Earl ‘n’ Bill’s Gas Station with Earl Siegfried for twenty years before starting a career at Brockport Central School District where he supervised the transportation mechanics, security staff and grounds and athletic fields. He created and maintained the baseball and softball fields at the School District and was instrumental in the refurbishing of the baseball field at The College at Brockport.  When Nietopski Field was built at the Sweden Town Park in 2005 through 2008, Sweeting spent much time advising those who were building it. Foundation members believe there was no better friend to the Sweden Community than Willie Sweeting.

The Sweden Community Foundation hopes to fund the completion of this Gazebo by Spring of 2020. It will be funded by generous donations from the Sweeting family and friends. Anyone wishing to make a tax exempt donation in Sweeting’s honor, make checks payable to: Sweden Community Foundation, c/o Sweden Town Hall, 18 State Street, Brockport, NY 14420

The Sweden Community Foundation, founded in 2005, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) foundation that is committed to expansion, promotion and funding of recreation opportunities for the residents in the greater Sweden Community.
