Total Hospitalizations 16,076, New Hospitalizations 1,308  
Intubations – -127
Deaths in Nursing Homes – 29, in Hospitals 452
Deaths  in New York – 481 New Deaths
Press Conference held in Buffalo, Erie County.
•Virus is different in different parts of the state. Different regions have different curves. Depending on the curve you have to develop a strategy.
•A 2 Rules Plan – Do No Harm and Plan the Reopening.
•TESTING TESTING TESTING
•Will allow elective outpatient treatment in counties and hospitals without significant risk of COVID 19 surge.
•We need to refine and develop testing equipment, labs and procedures.
•After testing we need an array of contact tracers and isolation policies to control infection.
•Make reopening decisions based on regional Covid-19 facts.
•Learn lessons and build back better.
•Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul will be in charge of Western NY region public health and reopening strategy.
•Robert Duffy, former Lt. Governor, will be volunteer special advisor to coordinate Finger Lakes region public health and reopening strategy.

What You Need to Know

  • Schools and nonessential businesses will stay closed through May 15th.
  • Governor Cuomo issued executive orders 202.17 and 202.18 requiring all people in New York to wear masks or face coverings in public, including when taking public or private transportation or riding in for-hire vehicles.
  • The State Department of Health has begun to conduct statewide antibody testing. Find more information and FAQs.
  • Elective outpatient treatment can resume in counties and hospitals without significant risk of COVID-19 surge starting next week.
  • Governor Cuomo will meet President Trump at the White House on 4/21 to discuss testing.
  • Governor Cuomo announces the State will take a regional approach to re-opening.
  • New Yorkers without health insurance can apply through NY State of Health through May 15, 2020; must apply within 60 days of losing coverage.
  • New Yorkers can call the COVID-19 Emotional Support Hotline at 1-844-863-9314 for mental health counseling.
  • Testing is free for all eligible New Yorkers as ordered by a health care provider.
  • Your local health department is your community contact for COVID-19 concerns.  

Monroe County Update

  • Concerns that 3rd party system makes sure to give all information to the County. Cuomo has an order out to make sure this happens. The order to release information also needs to be given to those who are being tested. It would also ask them to contact their PCP or the Monroe County of Health to give information to be documented in this way.
  • Would also instruct those individuals to be in isolation in accordance with the guidelines from NYS
  • Mentioned that their test results, while slower than County tests, aren’t as bad as initially thought. More like 2-3 days rather than 9

Antibody Test at Wegmans

  • This is a state initiative not through the County
  • Looking to get samples throughout the state in various community
  • Started yesterday, but didn’t get all the results they were hoping for so they are doing it again today

SNAP changes

  • Current recipients will receive Max allowance for March and April
  • Disaster Snap – duplicate benefits for March and April
  • Don’t need to do anything if you are currently receiving, auto enrolled
  • Anyone new would not get those benefits
  • Max total $150/month

Property Taxes

  • Extended to the end of April already
  • Now looking to extend those payments through the end of May, not confirmed yet.
