Sweden residents now have ability to call into town board meetings

The Town of Sweden has long live-streamed its Town Board meetings to Facebook on the Town of Sweden Supervisor Facebook page. This enables residents unable to attend the meeting to watch from a home computer or from a smart phone wherever they happen to be. The videos also remain posted for residents to watch at a more convenient time.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed how all municipalities conduct meetings. Social distancing means that board members remote into the meeting telephonically. Sweden has continued to live-stream the meetings to Facebook from the town hall so that residents can watch and listen to the proceedings on the same platform to which they have become accustomed.

Beginning with the April 28, 2020 Sweden Town Board Meeting, residents will be able to call 646-787-0157 and enter code 497688 to listen to the meeting live. Residents may sign up in advance to make a comment during the Privilege of the Floor section of the meeting. In order to facilitate sign-up from a distance, residents must call 585-637-7588 or email supervisor@townofsweden.org prior to 5:30 p.m. before the 6 p.m. meeting. Pursuant to the Sweden Town Board’s rules for regular meetings, anyone signing up for the Privilege of the Floor must include their name and address (and now phone number) in the request. Town Supervisor Kevin Johnson will be able to grant Privilege of the Floor during the meeting using the resident’s phone number.

The Sweden Town Board remains committed to conducting vital town business to the extent possible while maintaining social distancing protocols. For additional information, contact the supervisor’s office by phone or email per the above listed information.
