Annual Boy Scout popcorn and nut fundraiser underway

The Seneca Waterways Council of the Boy Scouts of America’s annual product sale of popcorn and nuts is underway. In light of the pandemic, additional safety measures for in-person sales have been implemented to ensure the safety of scouts, leaders, families, and customers. An online sales system has also been developed to facilitate a touchless process.

The annual sale, which is the Boy Scouts’ major annual fundraiser, runs through October 25. It supports individual unit activities and the council’s ability to deliver the scouting program that helps to develop character, leadership, and life skills to nearly 9,000 youth across five counties (Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, and Yates). The sale raises, on average, $1.2 million, with 70 percent directly benefiting the youth in local scouting programs by helping provide the financial resources necessary to fund their scouting adventures at summer camp and unit activities and outings throughout the entire year. Proceeds help the council keep scouting programs available and affordable for all families.

Through this sale, youth learn the value of earning their own way in the program. In addition to earning money to support their activities, scouts learn valuable life skills that benefit them daily, such as gaining confidence in themselves, learning how to set goals and work as a team to achieve them, financial management, salesmanship, responsibility, and public speaking. Ultimately, scouts gain a feeling of accomplishment and pride in earning their own way.

The Camp Masters brand popcorn that the scouts sell offers various products, including buttery, sweet, chocolaty, or cheesy favorites, to satisfy every taste bud. Popping corn and microwave flavors, as well as trail mix, are also available options. Whitley’s nut products were added to the sale in 2019 to expand the variety of items available.

Customers can also support the military while supporting scouting. For a $30 or $50 donation, customers can send Camp Masters popcorn or Whitley’s nuts to U.S. Troops stationed all over the world and give them a taste of home.

There are several options for customers to order their popcorn and nut products through the Boy Scouts, including in-person at storefronts or door-to-door, touchless sales process through online order request with scout follow-up at http://www.soldbyscouts.com. Complete online ordering of popcorn is available at http://campmasters.org, and nuts at http://www.whitleysfundraising.com. For local scouts to benefit from online purchases, select Seneca Waterways Council as the council to support.
