Pharmaceutical waste collection event to be held in Clarkson

Monroe County Legislator Jackie Smith, along with Monroe County Sheriffs and Monroe County DES, will be hosting a Community Mobile Pharmaceutical Collection on Thursday, October 1, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Clarkson Town Court/Highway Garage parking lot, 3655 Lake Road North. No appointment required, just drive in and drop off.

Pharmaceutical waste collections provide a safe and proper way to dispose of unused or unwanted medications. Accepted items at this event will be pills and liquid medications, prescription medications, over the counter medications, ointments and creams, sprays and inhalers, empty prescription bottles, vials, pet medications, epipens and sharps. If dropping off sharps, make sure they are contained and are not loose. The best container is a used detergent bottle or another rigid plastic container. Pills can be all mixed together. Labels can be left on the pill bottles. The pill bottles will remain in the container in which they are placed and transported to ecopark where they remain locked until transported to the waste energy facility.
