Reimagine RTS transit system redesign launches May 17

Regional Transit Service (RTS) will launch Reimagine RTS, the redesign of the transit system in Monroe County on May 17, 2021. Reimagine RTS was initially planned for implementation on June 29, 2020 but was postponed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

RTS CEO Bill Carpenter said, “The design of the reimagined transit system was based on the hard work of the RTS team and the input of more than 12,000 people through surveys and more than 200 meetings and events throughout the community. The new system will be more frequent, reliable and connected and we are excited to bring it to life for our customers. I thank the team at RTS for their continued work on this project and I thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we have worked together to navigate the pandemic.”

Some changes of local interest include Brockport becoming an RTS On Demand Zone and Route 106 serving Hilton/Hamlin/Clarkson becoming Route 92 Hilton/Hamlin Commuter.

Route 94 Brockport Commuter riders will have service to the connection hub at Rochester Tech Park and can transfer to the new Route 19 Buffalo Road for service to the RTS Transit Center. This route will operate once in each direction during the a.m. and p.m. peak periods. At other times, customers can use the RTS On Demand service within the Brockport Community Mobility Zone which includes the village of Spencerport. RTS On Demand is a mobility option in which ADA-accessible vehicles provide service on demand within specific On Demand Zones. Use RTS On Demand for curb-to-curb service, or meet RTS Connect service and other transportation options at a Connection Hub or bus stop. Customers can book rides up to 12 hours in advance through the On Demand app, myRTS.com or by calling Customer Service.

The new Route 92 will connect customers traveling from Hilton, Hamlin, and Clarkson to the Eastman Avenue connection hub. At the hub, customers will be able to transfer to Routes 21 Dewey, 22 Lake, or 40 Ridge Crosstown. This route will operate two trips during the a.m. peak period and two trips in the p.m. peak period.
