Formerly proud upstater
I grew up in central upstate, close enough to play you all in sports. The further I moved, when people asked where I was from, knowing noone would know where my little town was, I would say “upstate NY, the real upstate, not Westchester”. I would say that with pride. Not so much anymore. The town’s handling of vanessa’s case, the obvious corruption and nepotism, insider favoritism involved, the high number of dogs ordered killed by the town paint a picture of a tiny backwards provincial place. Now that I live out here in Kansas, I guess I will just say New York state when people ask where I’m from and let them fill in their own details.
