Remains discovered in Parma fire pit identified as William Mason

William C. Mason, 69, was reported missing from his home at 5465 West Ridge Road in Parma, on May 26, 2021. As a result of the investigation to date, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that bones discovered in a fire pit on Mr. Mason’s property contain DNA belonging to Mr. Mason. He has now been declared deceased by the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of a forensic anthropoligist, recovered many bone fragments and a number of surgical implants from the fire pit. A review of video evidence collected during the investigation confirms there was a fire in the fire pit between May 25 and May 26, 2021. 

The investigation continues with search warrants executed and locations(s) of interest and the continued review of video and electronic evidence collected. 

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on Mason’s murder to call 911 or the MCSO Tip Line at 585-753-4175.
