Summer Serenades season finale August 26

You can always expect something special in a season finale and the Thursday, August 26, Summer Serenades finale is no exception. The Rochester Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra (www.rocjazz.com) makes their Brockport debut at 6:30 p.m. at Brockport’s Welcome Center, 11 Water Street, just east of Main Street. The hour-and-a-half Big Band Jazz performance will also include a celebratory surprise to mark the end of the Summer Serenades’ tenth anniversary season.

Summer Serenades, as always, is produced by a team of Village volunteers and fully supported financially by the generous donations of local folks, including individuals, businesses, and an occasional special foundation grant.  This is the first year that the Village of Brockport has served as sponsor, assisting significantly with in-kind support through the Village office staff and the Welcome Center.

Thanks to the generosity of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, there has always been an alternate site in the ready in case of bad weather.  SUNY Brockport was also a generous collaborator, making the campus SERC available for the RPO performance on August 5. The collaborations that have taken place this summer, in spite of it being in a global pandemic year, make Brockport a special place.

Plans are being made for a 2022 winter music series, in response to community enthusiasm for the opportunity to gather together to hear beautiful music in the midst of winter darkness.  The committee will keep people informed about dates and performers as they are finalized.
