Successful “August Challenge” at Lakeview Community Church

For the past 14 years, Lakeview Community Church (near Edgemere Drive) has held an “August Challenge.” Members of the church and people from the local community are challenged to donate a specific food item each year, like cans of tuna or peanut butter, for the Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf. This year the “August Challenge” was to collect 1,500 cans of chunky soup and $500. Thanks to Lakeview members, families, and friends, Union Scrap Processing, Inc, Goldwell of New York, Unionville Station Condominiums, local community and neighbors along the lakefront, a total of 1,000 cans of chunky soup and $1,510 were received. If $500 had been set aside for the cash goal, it would have left $1,010 to purchase an additional 673 cans of soup. That would have accomplished the challenge with 1,673 cans of soup and $500.
