Hixson Fellowship presented at Spencerport Kiwanis meeting

Distinguished Past President of the Spencerport Kiwanis Club, Chuck Colby (right), was honored with membership in the Hixson Fellowship at a recent meeting of the Spencerport Kiwanis Club. The Hixson Fellowship is named for George F. Hixson, Kiwanis International’s first president, who was a member of the Rochester Kiwanis Club. Hixson Fellowships are a way of recognizing people who have contributed significantly to Kiwanis’ history of generosity. Making the presentation was Keith Ryan, who was the first president of the Spencerport Kiwanis Club when it was formed on September 30, 1981.

Chuck Colby’s involvement with the Kiwanis Club also began on that September date. He oversaw the biggest project ever undertaken by the club – building a playground in Pineway Ponds Park, a project with a total cost of over $50,000 in value for materials and labor, much of which was donated. He also came up with a new fundraising idea for the club this year to replace two of the fundraisers lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first Car Rally/Scavenger Hunt was held in June and raised more than $5,000 to help the club better serve the Spencerport community.
