New classes and outdoor adventures at GCV&M

Genesee Country Village & Museum’s Nature Center is opening its doors and trails this winter for Nature Sunday Experiences – opportunities for visitors to enjoy the snowy museum grounds, learn about natural wildlife, and enjoy safe outdoor family fun. The museum will be open for Nature Sunday Experiences starting Sunday, January 9, through Sunday, March 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a suggested $5 donation.

Visitors to Nature Sundays will have the opportunity to explore the Genesee Country Nature Center and its trails meandering out from the main museum campus. See wildlife in natural habitats, learn about local plant life that emerges during the cold months, snowshoe through forested trails, and more. Visitors will have the opportunity to take an independent hike or follow along with a GCV&M naturalist for a guided family-friendly experience.

Bring cross country skis to GCV&M this winter for a unique experience. With miles of trails of varying difficulty, visitors can take their time exploring the winter woods on skis. Interested skiers can call to inquire about trail conditions, and must check in at the Nature Center Building before beginning their adventure. Visitors during Nature Sundays can also enjoy an afternoon of sledding down the hill in the Great Meadow. If there is snow, visitors can check in at the Nature Center between 1 and 3 p.m. to join the activity. Families can bring their own sleds for races down the hill, paint the ground with snow paints, or build a snowman complete with wildlife-friendly decorations. To learn more about hill conditions before visiting, please call 294-8262.

Families looking for educational winter fun can explore the winter StoryWalk™ along the snowy trails of the GCV&M Nature Center. While walking the Web of Life trail, visitors of all ages can delight in the storybook A Warm Winter Tail, by Carrie A. Pearson, illustrated by Christina Wald. Pages of the book have been installed along the trail for an immersive wintertime story experience.
