Hunter Education course offered in Brockport

A Hunter Education course is being offered at Conservation Club of Brockport, 291 Ladue Road, Brockport, on Friday, April 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, April 23, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Interested students may register online through the NYS DEC website. Students must attend both sessions.

This course is offered to persons interested in obtaining a New York State hunting license. Unlike the online course, it is offered free of charge. Safe firearm handling, tree stand safety, hunting planning, and safety are taught along with other New York State mandated content. Students successfully completing the course are issued the Hunter Education Certificates of Qualification required to obtain small or large game hunting licenses. Those who want to hunt during the upcoming turkey season need this class. Those who have already completed the online class may still participate in this in-person class by indicating they are auditing the class when enrolling.

Registered students may obtain a Student Manual at the Brockport Conservation Club on Monday afternoons from 5 to 9 p.m., at the Village of Brockport Offices, 127 Main Street, from the Seymour Library on East Avenue, or from Region 8 DEC offices. A copy can also be downloaded from the DEC website. Download directions are provided during the registration process. Students should allow adequate time to prepare the mandatory homework. Those who have previously completed an online class may present their proof of completion in lieu of the homework.

In fulfillment of its mission, the Conservation Club of Brockport regularly offers Hunter Education courses including Bowhunter Education. Fall course dates and Beginners Trap Shooting opportunities will be announced soon.
