Hilton Lions perform free youth eye screenings

The Hilton Lions Club recently completed youth eye screenings at St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Walker Firemen’s Hall. Using a $7,000 Welch Allyn Spot camera on loan from the Lions District SEE Program, Hilton Lions were able to screen for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, anisocoria, anisometropia, and gaze asymmetry.  A total of 61 children were screened, a few being less than one year old. Based on the results, they recommended a complete eye exam for seven children.

Members from the Lions Club who were able to take part were President Brad Helmer, Diana Hanley, Therese Flannery, Brian Fox, Linda Judd, Dale Nesbitt, Judy Nesbitt, Kaye Robertson, Ken Robertson, Mary Francis Westfall, and Chairman Jim Schiebel.

Hilton Lions do require a parental permission slip, and screen from a distance of about three feet so nothing touches the child. Screenings are free and results are given to each parent immediately after the child’s screening. The club is looking for more community events where they can screen children.
