Veterans Town Hall Event planned in Hamlin

On Saturday, May 14, the Veterans Outreach along with Monroe County Legislator Jackie Smith, Towns of Sweden, Hamlin, Clarkson, and the Village of Brockport will be hosting a Veterans Town Hall Event. All veterans are invited to attend this community event specifically designed to address the unique needs of the Veterans in our community. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the VFW in Hamlin, 1739 Lake Road North. There will be presentations by local elected officials, VA representatives, and Veteran service providers. The event will include a Veteran Q&A session along with table displays with information on different Veteran Services and benefits.

The organizing committee was put together by County Legislator Jackie Smith and Nick D’Amuro, Clarkson Town Board Member. D’Amuro explained how the event came to be. “The pandemic really illuminated a number of issues regarding public health. I came across several studies about the impact the pandemic had on veteran health, particular mental health. That’s when I contacted County Legislator Jackie Smith and the ball really got rolling. This event, I hope, will let our veterans here on the Westside know there are plenty of folks out there who have their back and so they know exactly what resources are available to them.”

Committee members are Randy Hoke from Sweden, Annie Crane from Brockport, Nick D’Amura from Clarkson, Angel Male from Hamlin, and County Legislator Jackie Smith. The committee has been working on this project since the beginning of the year with Veterans Outreach.

County Legislator Jackie Smith stated, “We have put together this opportunity for all veterans who need answers to their questions about services, benefits, and issues of concerns. All are welcome and we are looking forward to serving the men and women who have served our country.”

No RSVP is needed for this morning of refreshments, conversation, and camaraderie. For more information, contact Jackie Smith at legislatorsmith@gmail.com or 585-259-8457.

For those unable to attend this event, the committee has also been working on scheduling the Veterans RV to be at various summer events. Stop by the Veterans RV at the Hamlin Wheel Fest, Brockport Arts Festival, and Clarkson Good Neighbor Day.
