Lane reductions and ramp closures in effect on I-490 in Riga

The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of long-term lane and ramp closures along Interstate 490 near Exit 3 (State Route 36) in Riga. The closures are necessary to facilitate repairs to the bridges carrying I-490 over Black Creek and are expected to continue through September, weather permitting.

The following reductions and closures are now in effect:

•I-490 westbound near Exit 3 has been reduced to a single lane and the ramp to State Route 36 will be closed to traffic for the duration of the project.

•I-490 eastbound near Exit 3 has been reduced to a single lane and the entrance ramp to I-490 eastbound from State Route 36 will be closed to traffic for the duration of the project.

Motorists should follow posted detours and are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.

All construction activities are weather dependent.
