Sweden tables proposed local law regarding shipping containers

The Town of Sweden held a public hearing on August 23 regarding a proposed local law that would regulate the use of shipping containers in residential zones. The proposed law would ban shipping  containers in residential zones except for those used for agriculture, contractors temporarily storing equipment on construction sites, and for the purpose of moving personal property.

Several property owners attended the public hearing and voiced opposition to a ban, instead suggesting that regulations regarding setbacks, visibility and size be put in place. Tabling the proposal leaves the Board with several options: re-working the proposed law and convening another public hearing; adopting it as is or voting it down as is; or not addressing the issue again.
