Friends of Hamlin Beach State Park receive grant to increase accessibility
On June 30, the statewide non-profit organization Parks & Trails New York presented a “big check” to the Friends of Hamlin Beach State Park in the amount of $29,118 for equipment to enhance the accessibility to Hamlin Beach State Park. Items include Mobi Mats to allow easier access to the water and greater flexibility in using the beach area, especially during busy weekends; a floating beach chair will allow those who are physically unable to swim to be able to float safely in the water under the watchful eyes of the lifeguards; and wheelchair accessible picnic tables and benches.
Parks & Trails New York is New York’s leading statewide advocate for parks and trails, dedicated since 1985 to improving our health, economy, and quality of life through the use and enjoyment of green space. Park and Trail Partnership Grants, administered by PTNY in partnership with the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, are funded through the state Environmental Protection Fund. They support a wide array of partner efforts, from raising private funds for capital projects and performing maintenance and beautification activities to providing educational programming and promoting public use of state parks and public lands through hosting special events.
