Longtime Brockport firefighter receives award

Brockport Fire District Firefighter Alan C. Way was recently named Firefighter of the Year with over 50 years of service by the Western New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association (WNYVFA).

Way joined the Brockport Fire Department in 1963 shortly before serving his country in the United States Navy. Upon his return from active duty on the USS Randolph CVS, he continued his service to the community in the fire department and in a variety of ways – volunteering at his church, at Lakeside Hospital and teaching first aid and driver safety when called upon.

He has become a well-known fire department volunteer at the local schools with his many years of dedicated service coordinating fire prevention activities. He has also been very active in the Brockport Exempts Club, the Brockport Fire Police, and a variety of fire service organizations across the county and state. It is for these reasons and many more that Alan Way was nominated for this distinction. He was selected and received the award on July 29, 2023 from WNYVFA.
