Letchworth State Park will be honoring the New York State Parks system turning 100 by hosting an event like no other. The NYS Parks Legacy Celebration will take place in multiple locations at Letchworth State Park on Saturday, July 20, 2024.
“In a centennial year park, workers like us can’t help to look back on the past 100 years,” said Kelly Rife, Public Affairs Coordinator of the Genesee Region at New York State Parks. “The best part of our jobs is still seeing peoples’ smiling faces as they safely explore these natural landscapes. Parks give everyone an opportunity to camp, fish, hike, learn our state’s historical roots, delve into globally unique natural wonders and more. In the state parks near the Genesee River, you can whitewater raft, horseback ride, snowmobile, cross country ski, help make maple syrup, swim in a Great Lake, and take a ride in a hot air balloon next to thundering waterfalls. We are honored to host a one-time celebration where like us, everyone has an opportunity to inherit the legacy that is our state parks system.”
This family-friendly event will include a CCC Legacy Ceremony at the Lower Falls CCC statue and a special historical presentation at Humphrey Nature Center.
The Highbanks Recreation Area on the North End will have activities led by nearby outdoor recreation businesses, displays by state parks across New York, food, face painting, a balloon artist, hot air balloon tethering, live music by Nik and the Nice Guys, and a firework finish.
