Great Lakes Gaming kicks off summer camps for kids
Great Lakes Gaming (GLG), Rochester’s premier gaming and esports destination, is excited to announce the return of its highly anticipated summer camp series for kids. Designed to foster essential skills, teamwork, and creativity in a fun and engaging environment, GLG’s camps offer a unique opportunity for young gamers and aspiring tech enthusiasts to dive into the exciting worlds of esports, game design, video editing, and computer building.
GLG’s summer camps offer a comprehensive curriculum that goes beyond just playing games, blending the excitement of gaming with valuable STEM and creative arts education. Campers will:
•Develop teamwork and esports skills: Learn effective communication and build camaraderie through competitive video games. They’ll even create their own esports brand, complete with a team name, logo, and motto, and compete for challenges and rewards.
•Explore game design: Stretch their creativity by learning game design principles, from basic board games to creating their very own platformer game from scratch.
•Gain media literacy and tech skills: Discover video editing fundamentals, professional media standards, and safe online content sharing.
•Meet guest speakers: Professionals from local companies will share insights into career development and experiences within and surrounding the gaming industry, offering a peek into potential future paths.
“We’re incredibly excited to welcome young talent to Great Lakes Gaming this summer,” says Ben Garvey, CEO. “Our camps provide a safe, structured, and fun environment where kids explore passions, develop critical thinking, teamwork, and technical skills relevant to today’s digital world. We’re proud to offer a curriculum that entertains and equips campers with marketable skills for the future, and thanks to the Rochester Area Community Foundation for helping us to provide programs like ours to a broader range of young people.”
GLG’s summer camps run weekly through August at Innovation Square in downtown Rochester.
