Blue Christmas Service

Offering Hope and Healing During the Holidays

As the holiday season approaches—a time often filled with celebration, music, and bright lights—many in the community quietly carry burdens of grief, stress, or loneliness. To offer a place of comfort and reflection, Spencerport United Methodist Church, 30 Amity Street, will host a Blue Christmas Service on Sunday, December 21, at 5 p.m., inviting anyone seeking peace amid the season’s pressures.

Unlike traditional Christmas services filled with festive cheer, a Blue Christmas Service provides a gentle, contemplative space for those who may be hurting. The evening features soft music, Scripture readings, moments of silence, and prayers focused on remembrance and hope. Attendees are encouraged to acknowledge feelings of loss or sadness—whether due to the death of a loved one, strained relationships, illness, financial struggles, or simply the emotional weight of the year.

“Not everyone feels merry in December,” said Pastor Jack Laskowski. “This service reminds people that it’s okay to feel what they feel, and that God meets us in our sorrow just as much as in our joy.”

The service is open to everyone, regardless of religious affiliation. Candles will be available for participants to light in memory or honor of loved ones. A light supper will be offered following the service in the fellowship hall.
