OBITUARIES – WEEK OF JULY 28, 2013

AREA

•Lissow, Ruth M., of Waterport, died July 17, 2013 in New Port Richey, Florida. Predeceased by her husband, Raymond Lissow. Survived by her children, Raymond B. (Frances) Lissow, William M. Lissow, both of New Port Richey, Barbara C. (Kenneth) Beach of Pavilion and Catherine A. (Stuart) MacDonald of Pultneyville; her sisters, Mabel Kasper, Vera Tetlow, Beatrice Eichas and Margaret Scorse; sister-in-law, Connie Beaty; brother-in-law, William Mulroy; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her siblings, Hilda Mulroy, James and Charles Beaty.

Her Funeral Mass was said July 22 at St. Leo the Great Church, Hilton. Interment, St. John’s Cemetery, Spencerport. Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society, ARC of Orleans County or Masses for her intention at the church of one’s choice.

 

BROCKPORT

•Valentine, Lillian R., age 93, formerly of Brockport, died July 19, 2013 in the Latta Road Nursing Home following a short illness. Mrs. Valentine was predeceased by her husband Mendore, her son Peter, her daughter Carolyn Licurse and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son-in law, Frank Licurse of Greece; daughter-in-law, Patricia Valentine of Colorado; grandchildren, Lisa (Rafael) Sanchez, Scott (Jennifer) Valentine, Roger (Jill) Valentine; great grandchildren, Gabriela, Anthony, Tyler; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. Mrs. Valentine was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Brockport and one of the original organizers of the St. Rocco’s Festival in Hulberton. She was a member of the Sweden Senior Citizen Group, a former Tax Collector for the Town of Murray and worked for many years at Rochester Products.

A Mass of Christian Burial was said July 24 in St. Mary’s Church, Holley. Interment, St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Albion.Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society in her memory.

 

CHILI

•Gagliano, Marie E. (Tantalo), died July 19, 2013 at age 64. Predeceased by father, Pasquale (Patsy) Tantalo and former husband, Joseph Gagliano. She is survived by her daughter, Denise McAuliff; granddaughter, Deanna McAuliff; mother and step-father, Grace (Tantalo) and Everett (Eddie) Turner; brothers, sisters and in-laws, Joseph (Mary Ann) Tantalo, Patti (Bernie) Iacovangelo, Larry Tantalo and Lisa Tantalo; step-brothers, David (Elaine) Turner and Gary Turner; her uncle, Sam Farace; nephews and nieces, Joel (Becky) Tantalo in California, Matthew Tantalo, Frank Iacovangelo, Annamaria (Michael) Iacovangelo-Glade, Patsy Iacovangelo; many cousins and dear friends. Marie was retired from Bausch and Lomb after 32 years of devoted time and service.

Her Funeral Mass was said July 24 at St. Pius the Tenth Church, Chili. Entombment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations can be made to the American Liver Foundation in her memory.

 

•Redsicker, Alvin, died July 18, 2013 at age 80. Predeceased by his son, Ken. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joyce; sons Virgil, Bob and Keith; daughter, Tracy (Dan) Farrell; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many friends and family.

His Funeral Mass was said July 23 at St. Pius the Tenth Church, Chili. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

 

•Rowe, John T., Jr., July 23, 2013. Survived by his loving wife, Deborah; his mother, Rosemary Rowe; children, Michael (Sheryl), John III (Jessica), Cher (Ray) Philio, Courtney (Michael) McClendon, Michael and Janevra Gunkel; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Rowe; sisters, Linda Cegelski and Laurie Oliveri.

Friends are invited to his Memorial Service Sunday, July 28 at 2 p.m. at the Union Presbyterian Church, 1 Browns Avenue, Scottsville.

 

•Thomas, Edith E., July 22, 2013. Survived by her loving husband of 66 years, William; daughter, Bonnie (John) McClun of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Thomas (Colleen) Kulzer of Newton, Pennsylvania, Susan (Joseph) Essin of Eugene, Oregon; five great-grandchildren, Claire and Elliot Kulzer, Timothy, MacKenzie and Jacob Essin; sister, Florence (Arthur) Case. Edith was an active member of Country Twirlers.

•Merino, Jonathan L., suddenly on July 16, 2013. Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Dora Jean Merino. He is survived by his brothers Joseph “Michael” (Mitzi) Merino Sr. and Daniel Merino; many cousins and nephews,

HAMLIN

•Bower, Gerald H., July 20, 2013, age 67. Predeceased by his parents, Harvey and Lucille Bower; his brothers John and Mike Bower and Mike’s fiance, Lynn Lemmon. Jerry is survived by his brother, Ricky (Terry) Bower; his sister, Lena Bower (Don Frederick); sister-in-law, Sheryl Bower; nephews, Matt (Joann), Tim (Stephanie), Ricky, Austin and Timmy Bower and Ari Thulin; nieces, Sarah Bower, Elizabeth (Jamie) Thulin and Ashley Bower. He served his country in Vietnam in the Navy Seabees.

Services with Military Honors were held July 24 at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, Inc., Hilton. Contributions can be made to Hamlin VFW or Vietnam Veterans of America in his memory.

•Ryan, Richard “Dick” “Lefty,” July 23, 2013, at age 83. Survived by his wife, Marjorie (Foster) Ryan; his children, Douglas and William Ryan, Nancy (Ken) Hayward and Virginia (Bryan) Gardner. Predeceased by son, Joseph, 1999. Also survived by his grandchildren, Trevor and Audrey Hayward, Kayla, Molly, Kelly and Katie Ryan, Ellie and Owen Gardner; his brothers, James and Joseph (Marion) Ryan; sisters, Rita Ridley, Agnes (Jack) Forsyth, Ellen Dinehart and Jean (Tom) Brook; brothers-in-law, Jack Uebelacker and Ed (Jeanette) Foster; sisters-in-law, Bernice Ryan and Doris Foster; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also predeceased by his siblings, Margaret Sherwood, Mary Uebelacker, David and Jack Ryan.

His Funeral Mass was said July 27 at St. Leo The Great Church, Hilton. Interment, St. John Cemetery, Spencerport. Contributions can be made to the National Neurofibromatosis Foundation or Lakeside-Beikirch Care Center in his memory.

 

•Sterling, Ann M., on July 13, 2013. Survived by her sons, Glenn, Frank and Gary; grandchildren, Abbey and Eric Sterling and a brother, Robert DeVos.

Funeral Services were held July 24 at Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, Hilton. Interment, Parma Corners Cemetery.

 

HOLLEY

•DeLaura, Viola M., age 96, died July 21, 2013 at Unity Hospital. She was born in Spencerport, the daughter of Caroline and Huron Ward and has been a lifetime resident of this area. She was predeceased by her husband Mario in 2000. She is survived by her three sons, Mario (Linda) of Hamlin, Kenneth of Greece and Gary (Cindy) of Albion; grandchildren, Dennis, Dion and Desiree DeLaura, Rachel and Rebecca Davis, Cheryl and Caroline DeLaura; brother, John (Vivian) Ward of Holley; sister, Beulah Ward of Holley; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ward of Leroy; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by seven siblings, Clifford, Elmer, Isabel, Kenneth and Wade Ward, Nancy Saxman, Ona Migano. She was a member of Disciples United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held July 25 at the Disciples United Methodist Church. Burial in Hillside Cemetery. Contributions can be made to Disciples United Methodist Church in her memory.

 

SPENCERPORT

•German, Susan L., Suddenly on July 22, 2013 at age 65. Predeceased by her father, Archie German; aunt, Pauleen German. Survived by her mother, F. Dorothy German; brother, Robert (Mary) German; nieces, Katie (Ron) Rodas, Leslie German; nephew, Mike (Jacci) German; great nieces and nephews, Emma, David and Leah; aunts Georgiana and Barb and cousin, Sandi. Sue leaves behind her beloved companion and “little buddy,” Jake. Sue was a former employee of Eastman Kodak Company in the Employee Suggestion Department and was an EMT with the Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance for many years.

Her Celebration of Life was held July 26 at Walker Brothers Funeral Home, Inc., Spencerport. Interment Parma Corners Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450 in her memory.

 

•Walker, Gary D., age 77, died July 22, 2013. He was born February 29, 1936 in Rochester, a son of the late Donald and Dorothy (Lamberton) Walker. Gary was a retiree of Rochester Telephone and had served in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was predeceased by his daughter, Gina Scheg. He is survived by his children, Kim Walker Sherry of Greece, Shawn Walker of Brighton, Todd (Angela) Walker of Webster; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Donald and Nancy; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held July 26 at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., Holley. Contributions can be made to the charity of one’s choice in his memory.

 

•Wright, Andrew C., died unexpectedly July 22, 2013 at age 50. He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Christine (Thomas) Wright; beloved children, Hunter and Mason Wright; parents, Robert and Joan Wright; sister, Lisa Mack; brother, Steven (Karen) Wright; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held July 27 at the Stephenson-Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., Avon. Interment, St. Agnes Cemetery, Avon.
