Gene Atwood

•Atwood, Gene, Gates: Gene Atwood, born in Columbus, OH, died on January 15, 2015, at the age of 93. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Aileen Coleman Atwood (1999). He is survived by his sons, Gene & Jeff (Julie Ann); daughter, Suzie (Pete) Stahl; grandchildren, Jeffrey Coleman Atwood, Eric & Beth Stahl; and his fiancée, Jane Connor.

Gene was a wonderful, loving, gentle man who adored his family. He was an over-the-top OSU Buckeyes fan, loved traveling and his summer vacations at Big Moose Lake. He was the editor of OSU’s student newspaper and taught zoology at OSU prior to entering WWII. Gene was a captain in the U.S. Army, an artillery officer and a General’s aide. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and helped liberate a concentration camp.
