James Jay Powell
•Powell, James Jay, Spencerport: Died unexpectedly on February 16, 2016. He was born in Tannersville, New York, on September 18, 1933. James graduated from Hunter-Tannersville Central Schools and received an Associate Degree in Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology.
James was a veteran of the US Navy having served on the USS Coral Sea. After his naval service he worked at Eastman Kodak, Co. for over 35 years, where he was an engineer, heading up the Laser Lab before his retirement.
He was a member of many civic and fraternal organizations, volunteering his time to help others. James’ memberships included the American Legion, Unity Lodge, Etolian Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, and Consistory, where he held various offices in each of these organizations. He was active in several charities. He is survived by his daughter Diana (Powell-Keery), son-in-law Brian Keery, granddaughters Alexandra and Caitlyn Keery, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on February 27th at 11 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in Spencerport. Donations can be made in his name to the Ronald McDonald House, Rochester, NY.
