Robert G. Stephens
Hilton/Lake Placid: August 31, 2016. Bob was born March 31, 1937 in Annapolis, Maryland to George R. and Muriel B. Stephens. He spent his early childhood at West Point Military Academy before going off to Northwood School in Lake Placid. He still is the only athlete from there to letter in 5 varsity sports in one year.
He then went to Ithaca College, graduating with his degree and being named to Who’s Who of College Students. Following college, he enlisted in the Army and started his illustrious 30 year career.
He taught at Hilton High School for 30 years, helping start the football program and bringing in girls sports.
In 2004, he was the recipient of both the Northwood School Alumni Community Award and the Lake Placid Ambulance Volunteer of the Year Award. In 2012, he was the recipient of the James P. Fullerton Award. In 2013, he received the US Flag that was flown over the US Military Academy at West Point in his honor for 30 years. Bob was predeceased by both parents, his first wife, Carol, and his sister, D’Arcy.
He is survived by his wife, Lilla; his children, Robert Jr. (Choi-ling) Stephens, Beth (Chris) Cassidy, Karen Stephens, Gordon Stephens, Sue (Gary) Watson, Bill (Margo) MacNeil & Katy (Pete) Nestor; his 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday, September 6th from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 PM at the THOMAS E. BURGER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 735 East Ave., Hilton. Bob’s Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, September 7th at 11:00 AM at Hilton Baptist Church, 50 Lake Avenue, Hilton. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Parma Union Cemetery.
