Gerald M. Yazback “Jerry”

Rochester – May 22, 1944-December 16, 2020. Passed away at the age of 76 after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. He is predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Genevieve. He is survived by his three adoring children, Kimberly (Vincenzo) Buonomo, Alisaar (Dennis Jr.) Tubolino and Michael (Stacie) Yazback; and his dear friend and mother of his children, Joanne Yazback; his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Antonio and Giovanni Buonomo; brother, Anthony (Margaret) Yazback; nephews, Rick and Tony Yazback; niece, Michelle (Aldo) Zucaro; and great nieces Olivia and Lily Zucaro.

Born and raised in Rochester, NY, Jerry was a graduate of Aquinas Institute and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in History from St. John Fisher College and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from SUNY Geneseo. He proudly grew up in the 10th Ward and kept close ties to the neighborhood during his thirty year career in the Rochester Public Library System. Most notably, Jerry was the head librarian at the Maplewood Community Library at 1111 Dewey Avenue where he touched the lives of countless Aquinas students and neighborhood patrons. Jerry was an Army veteran. He loved becoming an umpire for youth and adult softball leagues and was an avid reader and fan of legal thrillers. With a larger than life personality, Jerry always had a kind word and smile for everyone and will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.

A private ceremony and entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery will be held for the family. A Mass and Celebration of Life will be announced in 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry’s memory to the Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library at https://ffrplapps.libraryweb.org/jerry-yazback.
