Joanne M. Squire

Greece: September 12, 2016 at age 84. A beloved spouse, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and teacher. Predeceased by her parents, John Kenneth Moriarty and Ethel Moriarty; a nephew, Bradley James Shelp; and great-granddaughter, Faith Soja. Survived by her husband of 63 years, Ralph I. Squire; her children, Jeffrey (Maureen) Squire, Judith (Tom) Meiller and Janet (Bill) Betteridge; her grandchildren, Matthew Squire, Christopher Squire, Megan (Steve) Soja, Jamie (Bryan) Zirkle, Stephen Betteridge and Daniel Meiller; a great-grandchild, Natalie Soja; and her dear sister, Patricia (Bradley) Shelp. Also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Joanne was a native of Medina, NY and graduate of Geneseo and Brockport State Universities. She was the longtime librarian at Florence Brasser Elementary School in Gates, respected and beloved there for her knowledge of children’s literature and her incredible skill at using a book to captivate an audience of young readers.

The family will receive friends and share memories from 1-4 pm Saturday, September 17th at the Leo M. Bean and Sons Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, September 18th at United Methodist Church of North Chili, 2200 Westside Drive (corner of Buffalo Road and Westside Drive). A reception at the church will follow the service. A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM Monday at Mt. Albion Cemetery, Albion, NY. Memorials to the United Methodist Church of North Chili.
