Virginia “Dinny” Hafner Ryan passed away on December 26, 2022 surrounded by family and an extraordinary team of caregivers. She loved life and no matter what came her way, she faced it with resilience, grace, compassion and humor.
Born to George and Ruth Culver Hafner in Rochester in 1930, she grew up in the 19th Ward and graduated from West High in 1947. After the death of her husband, Joe, Dinny went to work at what was Lincoln First Bank, starting as a part time teller and retiring as a branch manager and Assistant Vice President. She enjoyed working and later volunteering, but family was her first love, making sure everyone had a handmade custom Christmas stocking, knitted mittens and all the grandchildren had an afghan complete with their college colors, name and graduation date. We will treasure those and her memory.
Dinny is survived by her children, Cindy Ryan Huether, Terry, (Liz) Ryan, Ginny (Jeff) Ryan Curran; grandchildren Brett (Whitney), Courtney (Jake), Matthew (Michelle), Jeffrey (Chelsea), Mickey (Emily), Ted, and Caroline; great-grandchildren, Quentin, Watson, and Virginia; and brother, Mark (Barbara) Lewis.
