Ulrich was born in East Prussia, Germany – in 1937. In Brodienen, he enjoyed swimming, fishing and swinging by a rope in a nearby lakes. He walked to school and was a good soccer player. In 1947, his family left East Prussia and moved to Rheine, West Germany – as East Prussia became part of Poland.

After graduating from school, he served in the military where he was with a tank unit and enjoyed the guys he served with. After getting out of the military, he became an apprentice for a metal worker. One project that he was very proud of was the metal cross he helped make and install on the steeple of a church in Rheine (that is still there today). This allowed him to overcome his fear of heights. His father worked for the railroad, where he would also work on the trains.

In 1959, he traveled to America via boat and lived with his brother, Helmut and family a few years before he got his own apartment. He played soccer on the German-American Sports Club and participated in the German-America Society. His first job in America, was at Mixing Equipment as a machinist. His future brother-in-law introduced him to his future wife, Friedel. They would marry in 1967. Then he had the opportunity to work at Eastman Kodak, where he worked in the same building as his brother, Helmut. He was recognized for his meticulous accuracy of the parts he made. Clients would often tell his boss, that the parts made by US always fit perfectly and we never need to reject any of them!

He and Friedel lived in Adams Basin, where they raised Karl, Marie and Rolf. After taking an early retirement from Kodak, he was able to travel more with his wife and family. Going to Germany to visit his brother, Bernhard and seeing his hometown and exploring other sights. Also loved going to South Carolina, California, and Florida, for the sunshine, ocean and time with family. Last trip overseas was to visit his son in Sweden with the family. One of his favorite things was driving his zero-turn mower, that he called his Panzer (tank).

Ulrich was a kind and quiet guy, worked hard to provide for his family, was always willing to help family and friends, and had a wonderful group of friends that celebrated events and summer picnics. His absence will be felt by many, especially those he who really knew him.
