SUNY Brockport and Wal-Mart support BFD
SUNY Brockport announced they had secured funds totaling $5,000 for technology upgrades and the associates at the Brockport Wal-Mart added $1,000 of their "Support the Community" funds to enable the department to continue with computer upgrades and enhancements that will allow the Brockport Fire Department to maintain appropriate records while improving the computerized training aids in the department's training facility. more

'Young Citizen of the Year' award goes to Churchville youth
"If everyone in this world volunteered and contributed to their communities then this world would be a dramatically different and better place," said Donald Polaski, a 16-year-old junior at Churchville-Chili Senior High School, who was awarded the Monroe County 2006 Young Citizen of the Year Award. more

Through the recycling efforts of local residents and the Spencerport Rotary, the club received the First-Place Environmental Service Award at the Rotary International Regional Conference in Pennsylvania. more

Funding to improve archives, record keeping available
Assemblyman Steve Hawley (139th District) announced a series of grants for local governments and school districts throughout Genesee, Monroe, Niagara and Orleans counties being distributed by the New York State Archives (NYSA). The grants, ranging from $2,399 to $53,754, will be used to assist local governments and community organizations to improve record management systems. more

Grants will help fund the Arts
A series of grants totaling more than $120,000 for arts programs in the 139th Assembly District will go to the Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council, according to information received from Steve Hawley's Office (R.I.C. Batavia). more

Local schools help Arc's Camp Rainbow
Ronald Sodoma Elementary School in Albion and Lyndonville Elementary School have shown what it's like to be a "good neighbor." Each school recently held a Spell-A-Thon to help raise money for The Arc of Orleans County's Camp Rainbow, located on Townline Road in Lyndonville. more

First place finish for U12 baseball team
The Spencerport Rangers USSSA U12 Travel Baseball Team participated in the Victor Baseball Tournament the weekend of June 23-25 and came away with a 1st Place finish with a 5-0 record. more

Spencerport native Danielle Downey fifth in Ohio
Spencerport native Danielle Downey shot a 207 to finish four strokes back and fifth in the Lima Memorial Hospital Futures Classic held in Lima, Ohio - a tournament she won in 2004 and finished second in 2005. The tournament is part of the LPGA Futures Tour. more

Warriors bring championship back to New York
The Rochester Warriors 13 and under AAU basketball team traveled to Scranton, Pennsylvania to compete in the Northeastern PA Classic. more
