Residents voiced their concerns on the proposed expansion questioning how Star of the West planned to expand its business but not increase truck traffic in the village; the additional noise from the proposed silos; what would happen when snow and ice accumulate on the top of the silos and similar concerns. The Mammography Department at Lakeside Memorial Hospital received a three-year term of accreditation in mammography as the result of a survey by the American College of Radiology. more

Lung transplant patient improving after surgery
Deborah Hamlin, who underwent a bi-lateral lung transplant at Duke University in North Carolina on Sunday, December 24, in a five-hour surgery, was off the respirator and out of the intensive care unit, her son, Christopher, said on Tuesday, December 26. more

Meeting scheduled to discuss new Churchville fire department building
Community input is being sought on a proposal being put forth by members of the Churchville Volunteer Fire Department to construct a new building to replace their 50-year old facility with a larger, state-of-the-art home. more

Riga board votes to terminate contract with financial advisor
Riga Supervisor Pamela Moore said the resolution made by Councilman Jim Fodge at the December 19 town board meeting took her by surprise and violated protocol. more

in area All State Music Festival
Brockport seventh, eighth and ninth grade students participated in the New York State School Music Association Jr. High Area All State Band, Orchestra and Chorus at the Waterloo Central School District recently. more

Bringing holiday smiles
SkillsUSA students held their yearly Breakfast with Santa holiday party for children from Orleans County. The students organized a toy and clothing drive, shopped and wrapped presents and worked with Culinary Arts students to create the breakfast for the party. more

Holley first graders read to help children in need
Katie Trupo's first grade class in Holley loves to read, but they love it even more when they know that by reading they are helping children in need. The class completed a service project entitled "Classrooms Care," sponsored by Scholastic Book Club, for which they read 100 books at home in less than two weeks. more

Chris Zorn, Brockport High School's soccer coach, guided the Blue Devils to a 15-3-1 won-lost record and to the Class AAA soccer championship of Section V. more

Hilton inducts ninth Hall class
On Friday, December 29 at the Holiday Basketball Tournament in the gymnasium, Hilton Athletics inducted the ninth class into its Athletic Hall of Fame. more

Hilton woman recalls race of a lifetime
"Dear Santa: Please bring more sneakers. I have a feeling I'll be using them again this year." That might top the list for Patricia Pirnie, the Hilton mother of four, who competed with the world's toughest athletes at the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. more

Two from area in Wrestling Hall
Former state high school wrestling champions Mike LoPresti of Spencerport and Dave Pitoni of Hilton will be among seven members inducted into the Section Five Wrestling Hall of Fame in a ceremony February 13. more
