Brockport Community Big Band to play at Kiwanis Masquerade Ball

Engine 55, the Hamlin Fire District's first new engine, a 1931 Ward LaFrance, has returned to town after an extensive renovation. more

Local man injured in fall from float
Steve Klafehn, of Hamlin, was seriously injured following a fall from a two-story scaffolding. He was working to decorate the Lutheran Laymen's League float for the Rose Bowl parade in California. more

SUNY Brockport history depicted in photographs
In an old sun-bleached photograph from 1947, a rugged group of football players gaze admiringly at their coach who stares off frame, maybe sizing up a defense or looking for inspiration further afield. Urban forestry grant awards presented
Approximately $300,000 in Urban and Community Forestry Grants for 32 tree planting projects in local urban neighborhoods and parks to promote energy savings, habitat creation, increased property values, and improved quality of life for New York's urban residents will be presented. "New York is committed to enhancing urban areas and conserving valuable natural resources statewide," former Governor Pataki said. "These grants will build on our strong record of preserving the environment and have a lasting impact on urban areas by creating cleaner, healthier communities for future generations to enjoy." more

The Village of Churchville will hold a public hearing on Monday, January 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Hall, 23 East Buffalo Street, Churchville. Village residents are invited to provide the Board of Trustees with written or oral comments or ask questions on the tentative 2007-2008 budgets for the village at this meeting. more

Committee appointments announced for assemblyman
Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,I,C-Batavia) will continue to serve as the Ranking Minority Member on the Social Services Committee for the 2007 legislative session and has retained membership with the committees on Agriculture and Aging. He has also been appointed to the Veterans' Affairs, Economic Development and Transportation Committees. more

now registering students for kindergarten

Hilton Board of Education approves
$9.5 million maintenance and renovation bond vote

At its regular meeting December 12, the Hilton Board of Education approved a $9.5 million Maintenance and Renovation Bond Referendum which would allow the district to address building infrastructure at all Hilton schools and the transportation facility. more

Holley Capital Project committee meeting changed
The Capital Project Committee meeting for the Holley Central School District scheduled for January 10 has been changed to Wednesday, January 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the Elementary School Cafeteria. more

Serving soldiers
Brockport's A.D. Oliver Middle School Student Council sponsored Project Serving Soldiers. They sent 23 stockings to a base in Afghanistan where middle school social studies teacher Rich Wiest is stationed. more

Brockport CSD athletes make the grade
Nine Brockport High School fall varsity teams were honored by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, Inc for academic excellence. The following members of Varsity fall teams received a pin for maintaining an average of 90 or above and each team received a Certificate of Academic Achievement. more

Brockport lacrosse teams win title
On Saturday, December 30, members of the Brockport High School JV and Varsity Lacrosse teams traveled to Sahlen's Sports Park in Elma for the LAX MAS BASH. The tournament hosted 16 teams from Western New York. more

Holley Rod and Gun Club offers cure for cabin fever
Deer season is over, the holidays are done, and cabin fever is about to set in. The Holley Rod and Gun Club has a cure for cabin fever. Open trapshooting will be offered Thursday nights from 5 to 8:30 p.m. and newcomers are invited to stop in. more

K of C free throw championship set
St. Leo's Knights of Columbus Council #9461 will hold its free throw championship on January 13 in the Merton Williams Middle School in Hilton at 8 a.m. more

Ogden Parks programs levy non-resident fee
The Ogden Parks and Recreation program will charge an additional $5 fee (on top of original program fee) to non-residents participating in recreation programs. This non-resident fee excludes the following programs: Child Care, Pre-School and Summer Day Camp (K-3 & 4-6th). more

Trapper training course planned
A Trapper Training Course is scheduled at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Office, 6274 East Avon-Lima Road, Avon, (halfway between East Avon and Lima on Route 5 and 20; 1.5 miles east of Exit 10 off Interstate 390). It will be conducted from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, January 18 and from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 20. Attendance at both sessions is required for certification.
