First Hilton Apple Festival auto show scholarship awarded
Brittany Szczech of Rochester received a $250 scholarship from the Hilton Apple Festival Auto Show Committee. The scholarship was created to help Monroe County high school students who will be furthering their education in the automotive field. more

Hamlin town meeting to discuss sex offender status
In response to the notification of a registered, Level 3 sex offender residing in the Lake Breeze subdivision, the Town of Hamlin will host a meeting, open to all Hamlin residents, at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at the St. John Lutheran Church, 1107 Lake Road West Fork, Hamlin. more

Hilton church sends twelfth team to Honduras
Parma Christian Fellowship is preparing its twelfth team for ministry in Morazan, Honduras. Team XII includes Hilton residents Mark Sitterly, Melanie Andrews, Shannon Andrews, Patty Carpenter, Pam Merrill and Pastor Myke Merrill. more

Lois McClure comes to Brockport
An unusual guest is expected in Brockport. The Lois McClure, an 88 foot long wooden schooner, is slated to arrive at the Welcome Center in Harvester Park on the evening of August 3, where it will dock until the morning of August 6. more

Memorial garden to be dedicated
On Saturday, July 21, at 2:30 p.m. the public is invited to attend a Dedication Ceremony of the James E. Widener Garden of Recognition, honoring US Armed Forces Veterans who served from the Churchville-Chili Senior High School Class of 1966. It is being held on the Churchville-Chili Central School Campus at 139 Fairbanks Road, Churchville, located in the stadium and near the James E. Widener Garden of Recognition. Musicians, Military Color and Honor Guards will be present. more

Riga Town Board votes for
Ethics Board review of deputy appointment
The Riga Town Board has decided to look into developing a policy on nepotism. During a town board meeting on July 10, council members passed a resolution requesting that the Town Board of Ethics render an opinion and make recommendations about developing a policy for nepotism. The resolution, which was introduced by Riga Town Council Member James Fodge, also allows the Board of Ethics to appoint its own counsel. more

Riga Rec director puts knowledge to work
Riga's new Recreation Director David Thomas, a Riga resident for 19 years, has been on the job since April 2. He's working to keep the programs begun by his predecessor Matt Beeman already in place viable and is creating new programs for residents that are different, unique and never been offered in Riga before. more

Rotary seeks professionals for one month exchange to Greece
Rotarians of the Finger Lakes region and District 7120 are seeking four professionals to visit Greece in May 2008 as part of the Group Study Exchange program of The Rotary Foundation. more

Student art work exhibit opens
Brockport's Welcome Center just became a little more welcoming. So did Main Street and the Village Hall. A three-component exhibition put on by the New York State Summer School of the Arts, Visual Arts, is now being displayed on the Main Street banner poles, at the Welcome Center, and at the village offices. more

DEC seeks input from hunters and anglers with disabilities
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Pete Grannis said the Division of Fish, Wildlife and Marine Resources is undertaking a comprehensive review of hunting and fishing recreational opportunities for people with disabilities. This review of hunting and angling opportunities for people with disabilities will help DEC assess current opportunities as well as future needs. "New York State has a rich hunting and fishing heritage that should be available to all people who enjoy hunting on a crisp fall morning or wetting a line in a crystal clear lake," said Grannis. "We are looking for recommendations to make these opportunities even better." more

Holley District residents urged to register new students
Parents and guardians new to the Holley Central School District that have children entering kindergarten this September are encouraged to register as soon as possible. Families with children entering kindergarten through grade six should register at the Elementary School main office and those with children entering grades seven through 12 should register in the Middle School/High School Main Office. Both offices are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. more

Republican Parma Town Board Member changes political party affiliation
In information released July 11, the Monroe County Democratic Committee announced that current Parma Town Councilman Joe Reinschmidt has changed his party affiliation with the Monroe County Board of Elections and will seek re-election this fall as a Democrat with the party endorsement. The need for greater accountability and reform were cited as reasons for the long time Republican’s party change. more

Soaring to New Heights Award recipients

The Holley Board of Education honored three Soaring to New Heights Award recipients at its June meeting. High School Principal Terry McCarthy presented sophomore Trinity Cook with the award because she helped collect money for a school mate with a serious illness. more

Holley jumpers raise money
for American Heart Association

The Jump Rope for Heart has become a tradition at Holley Elementary School. In its 22nd year, the event has raised more than $200,000 for the American Heart Association's research and programs. more

Spencerport school board elects president
On Tuesday, July 10, District Clerk Alan Getter administered the oath of office to two members of the Spencerport Board of Education beginning new three-year terms, Rebecca Daniels and William Sweeney. more
