B-B construction project goes back to voters
Residents in the Byron-Bergen Central School District will have an opportunity to learn more about proposed changes in the $29.5 million 2007 Improvements Project during an informational meeting October 10 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. A vote on the revised project is scheduled for October 16. more

Hamlin Fire Department's new rescue tools
The Hamlin Fire Department has put a new hydraulic rescue system into service on its Rescue Truck. Department officials say the new equipment will dramatically enhance their ability to remove people trapped in vehicles after an accident. more

Holley church celebrates historic 100th anniversary

Nominations invited for Hilton High School Sports Hall of Fame
The Hilton High School Sports Hall of Fame annually recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Hilton athletic program and in some cases, at a higher level, through their participation as athletes, coaches or administrators. more

Spencerport residents urged to practice E.D.I.T.H. drills
The Spencerport Fire Department will once again sponsor a community-wide Exit Drill in the Home during Fire Prevention Week. This life-saving exercise, commonly referred to as "E.D.I.T.H.," will be conducted in partnership with the Spencerport School District and fire departments throughout Monroe County on Wednesday, October 10 at 6:30 p.m. more

Village stalls on Brockport Police Chief waiver
Will the Village of Brockport authorize the mayor to sign the police chief's 211 Waiver - which would allow the chief to continue to receive benefits from the Irondequoit police department? There was a vote of three for, one against and the mayor abstaining from signing it. more

Water Street farmers market location raising issues
While most of the visitors and villagers in Brockport seem happy with the move of the Sunday Farmers Market to Water Street from its original location on Market Street, there are some merchants and tenants in the area who bemoan the loss of parking spaces. more

Cartons for Christmas project kicks off
SPENCERPORT - The Ecumenical Council of area churches will sponsor the annual Cartons for Christmas community project that brings together churches, schools, service organizations, businesses and individuals interested in lending a hand to help local families for the holidays. Last year the group served 92 local families and provided toys for 219 children. more

Hamlin studies creation of ‘safe zones’
Taking a proactive stance to the safety and well-being of the children in the town of Hamlin is the idea behind establishing “safe zones” for them. more

The Gun Safety Awareness Coalition donated McGruff® the Crime Dog on Gun Safety video to all public libraries within Monroe County. The popular safety character McGruff delivers an important and compelling safety lesson to his nephew Scruff® about what young children should do if they encounter an unsecured firearm at school, at home or at a relative or friend's home. more

Vegetable acreage and production survey underway
The New York Field Office of the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will conduct a Vegetable Acreage and Production survey during October and November. This survey will gather information on vegetable acreage planted and harvested and amount of vegetables produced in New York during 2007. more

BOCES 2 SEPTO (Special Education Parent Teacher Organization) held an ice cream social to give families a chance to meet Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Michael O'Laughlin, who welcomed them to the new school year. more

Chili Senior Center programs
Euchre Tournament: Saturday, October 20. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and game play starts at 10 a.m. Registration fee is $2 and must be paid in advance. $6 cash will be due at the door, which will be used for prize money. more

Hunts score both for Blue Devils
Freshman Ashley Hunt and sophomore Chelsea Hunt each scored goals with assists from Danielle Lehman, who was playing in her first varsity game after being called up from JV, to lead Brockport to a 2-0 win over visiting Spencerport in girls soccer. more

Local winners in the Apple Derby
Seventy-five competitors challenged the 29th annual Apple Derby 5 mile run on September 2. For the first time since 1991, two locals finished as the top runners. Michael Cocquyt (29.24) crossed the finish line as the overall male winner and Patricia Pirnie (35:11) was the first female finisher and 14th overall runner to complete the 5 mile course. more

McMillion, Orbaker net three each for Hawks
Holley netted six second half goals, including three from Brandon McMillion, on their way to a 9-0 victory over School of the Arts in boy's soccer. more

Saints Cross Country Team raises funds
for American Cancer Society

The Churchville-Chili High School Boys & Girls Cross Country Teams participated in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on September 30, at Frontier Field. The team raised over $1,800 for the American Cancer Society. more

Spencerport grad sets school mark
Fredonia junior goalkeeper and 2005 Spencerport graduate Becky Scroger defeated Morrisville 7-0 last Friday to register her 15th career shutout and followed with a 2-0 whitewash over St. John Fisher Tuesday to set a new record for career shutouts. more
