A sun-filled week of Vacation Bible School (VBS) at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hilton brightened summer for some special students.
St. Paul’s VBS campers collected a variety of wish list items and donated money to benefit children and young adults served by Mary Cariola Children’s Center in Rochester. The campers collected boxes of stickers, cake mixes, spray candy, dried beans and rice. The donations will be used in classrooms for a variety of projects.
In addition, a check for $1,326 was presented to agency President/CEO Karen Zandi. The donation came from VBS attendees and their families.
“I think it is really special when children can give to children,” Zandi said. “These gifts will help fill the void that State funding cannot reach.”
St. Paul Lutheran Church offers an annual VBS open to the public during the first week of August. This year 173 campers attended.
Carol Goodwin, Director of St. Paul’s VBS, said supporting Mary Cariola made this an extra special experience. “There is nothing better than knowing that God has used you to make a difference,” Goodwin said.
Mary Cariola Children’s Center serves 400 children and young adults who represent 40 school districts from 10 surrounding counties. The Center provides evidence based solutions in education and life skills development for children and young adults with complex disabilities.
