The Holley Central School District’s chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 18 new members on Tuesday, November 26 at a formal induction ceremony held at the Holley Middle School/High School.
To be inducted into the NHS, a student must apply with and maintain a 90 percent academic average and be selected by a faculty selection committee based on the four qualities of NHS membership which include character, scholarship, leadership and service.
As part of the induction ceremony, new members were “tapped” by current members as they sat in the audience.
Inductees were then brought on stage, dressed in NHS robes where they joined current NHS members. NHS officers lit the ceremonial candles and described the four qualities of membership in detail and area businessman Brian Blackburn gave remarks as a guest speaker.
Middle School/High School Principal Susan Cory and District Superintendent Robert D’Angelo presented each new inductee with a NHS pin and congratulated them as they were met on stage by a parent or family member.
The new inductees into the Holley NHS are:
•Seniors — Heather Lynne Jones, daughter of Daniel and Lodema Jones; Lexi Savannah Reyngoudt, daughter of Mimi and Jeff Reyngoudt; and Paige Marie Whittier, daughter of Thad and Kim Whittier.
•Juniors — Leah A. Baker, daughter of Shari Pelusio and James Baker; Jonathan Richard Bower, son of Mike and Jill Bower; Nicole Catherine Boyle, daughter of Michael and Michele Yargeau; Taylor Louise DeSimone, daughter of Scott and Tina DeSimone; Tessa Marie McArthur, daughter of Scott and Sue McArthur; Bailey Anne Marie Papaj, daughter of Jamie Wilkins and Adam and Kerri Papaj; Ian Thomas Penders, son of Jana and Tom Penders; Cole Herbert Quiter, son of Chris and Heidi Quiter; Emily Ann Radford, daughter of Gary and Krista Radford; Cassandra I. Rivera, daughter of Carmelo Rivera and Veronica Rangel and Rosa Rivera; Andrew H. Rowley, son of John and Donna Rowley; Jessica Elizabeth Skehan, daughter of Elizabeth and Roderick Skehan; Andrew Joseph Spychalski, son of Patty Spychalski and Matthew Spychalski; Jade Delores Underwood, daughter of Joel and Margie Underwood; and Brianna Lynn VanAmeron, daughter of Kelly and Terry Mosier.
Current NHS members are President Shelby Kunker, Vice President Daniel Flanagan, Secretary Nicole Mauro, Treasurer Emily Skehan and members Nicole Blackburn, Bailey Flint, Justin Gaines, Jennifer Hendel, Emily Kordovich, Sarah Lusk, Claudia Passarell and Morgan Zona.
