SCSD tax rate less than previous year
The Spencerport Board of Education unanimously approved the 2014-15 tax rate of $24.09 per $1,000 in assessed value during its regular meeting on August 5. The adopted rate is less than previous projections and represents an actual decrease over last year’s rate of $24.39/$1,000, according to a press release from the district.
The lower tax rate resulted after all four towns within the district reported an overall 2.6 percent increase over last year, which was higher than original estimates.
In addition, all eligible residents should receive the new Property Tax Freeze rebate this fall from New York State. This regulation, adopted by NYS in April, will offer a rebate to taxpayers whose districts remained under their maximum allowable levy limit or “tax cap.” The Spencerport Central School District set a tax levy of $34.8 million, which was communicated to the community last spring, and remained under the limit. Details on this rebate and eligibility may be found at this NYS link,http://www.tax.ny.gov/pdf/publications/orpts/rp5301fs_prop_tax_facts.pdf.
With the adopted rate for 2014-15, the school tax bill for a home in the district with an assessed value of $150,000 (-$30,000 STAR exemption) will be approximately $2,890.80, which represents a $37 annual decrease from last year.
