A Brockport Oliver Middle School student was honored with the Rochester Police Department’s Do the Right Thing Award at a ceremony at the Public Safety Building on February 11. RPD presented Evan Bovee with a trophy and certificate for devoting his time this winter to collecting coats for “Warm Hearts, Warm Bodies.”

Bovee obtained permission from the school to place a donation box at the middle school this winter, which he emptied daily. He collected an amazing 54 coats through the drive, all of which were donated to the Open Door Mission.

Bovee said participating in the drive made him feel good because he knew he was helping people stay warm. He hopes to turn the coat drive into an annual occurrence, and even wants to hold another drive this spring.

The Do the Right Thing program aims to foster positive relationships between the Rochester Police Department (and other local police agencies) and the youth in Monroe County.
