Student Art Exhibition is a harbinger of spring, even in times of self-isolation
The students of the Department of Art at The College at Brockport have been hard at work. Prior to the COVID-19 precautions, they had been making art all year, utilizing the Brockport studios. Some of those works are included in the Annual Student Art Exhibition, “Silience.” The challenge that gallery director Tim Massey faced, however, was how to share the exhibition with the public while everyone is self-isolating and galleries are closed. He decided to hang the show anyway, filmed it, and has released a virtual tour. This juried show, which includes a variety of media, including ceramics, sculpture, drawing, painting, graphic design and mixed media, is available online at https://vimeo.com/413357039.
The Department of Art was pleased to welcome Carolyn Ford as the juror for this year’s exhibition. A professor of art at Limestone College in South Carolina, Ford is also an avid traveler. She relishes learning odd folklore about each place she experiences, thus attempting to sneak in some humor or stretch the truth in her art.
Massey always looks forward to this “celebration of our students’ artistic achievements. Even during a pandemic, and sequestering, and social distancing, it is still the pinnacle of our exhibition season. It wouldn’t be right to let art go unseen.”
