C-C senior receives scholarship from Daughters of the American Revolution

Brianna Ruffin, a recent graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School, was chosen from among 15 candidates to receive the Polly F. Burke $3,500 Scholarship. A ceremony was held on June 24 at Brianna’s home in Chili by members of the Irondequoit Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (based in the Corn Hill neighborhood of Rochester) to present the scholarship.

Factors considered in determining the winner were academic achievement, extracurricular activities, an essay, references, and other evidence of the student’s leadership abilities, sense of patriotism, responsible behavior, honesty, and integrity.

In 1999 the Polly F. Burke Scholarship endowment was established by her family and friends.  Polly F. Burke was a member of the Irondequoit Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 70 years. Over $90,000 in scholarships have been awarded to local high school seniors or graduates of an accredited Monroe County high school since 2000.
