Spencerport CSD leader to retire

Spencerport Superintendent of Schools Dan Milgate has announced his plans to retire, effective January 2021. Milgate’s retirement will cap a 30-year career in education, with 25 of those years in the Spencerport Central School District. Since 2017, he has served as the superintendent.

“Retirement has been on my mind for a while, and yet I kept postponing the decision simply due to timing,” Milgate said. “I have had a wonderful career in Spencerport, and enjoyed every aspect of being part of the Ranger family. The opportunity to serve as the superintendent has been an honor, and I truly feel fortunate to have worked with so many great people in the education of our students.”

“I want to focus on the next chapter with my family,” Milgate added. “It’s important for me to also emphasize and offer reassurance that I will remain available and provide any support necessary to ensure a smooth transition.”

On behalf of the Board of Education, President Kevin Hutton said, “We would obviously love to keep Dan and his leadership for years to come. He will truly be missed, and yet he deserves our deepest appreciation for his years of dedication and commitment to our students. We wish him all the best.”

The board accepted Milgate’s retirement notice during its meeting on October 20. In the coming weeks, the board will be determining next steps and a search process for a new superintendent. The district will communicate this progress with its staff and families as updates become available.
