Hilton grad receives scholarship from the DAR

Robert Chaffee, a recent graduate of Hilton High School, was awarded the Polly F. Burke Scholarship for 2021, totaling $3,500, by the Irondequoit Chapter of  the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). A ceremony was held on June 16 at the Hervey Ely Mansion in the Corn Hill neighborhood of Rochester, which is owned by the Irondequoit Chapter. Robert, his parents, and many of the chapter’s DAR members were present.

Factors considered in determining the winner were academic achievement, extracurricular activities, an essay, references, and other evidence of the student’s leadership abilities, sense of patriotism, responsible behavior, honesty, and integrity.

In 1999 the Polly F. Burke Scholarship endowment was established by her family and friends. Polly F. Burke was a member of the Irondequoit Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 70 years. A total of over $93,000 in scholarships have been awarded to local high school seniors or graduates of an accredited Monroe County high school since 2001.
