Merton Williams social studies teacher recognized for service to Veterans

For many years, Pam Tenny, social studies teacher at Hilton’s Merton Williams Middle School, has invited Bob Rapone, U.S. Army Veteran who served as a paratrooper in the 173rd Airborne Brigade, to her classes to talk about his experiences both during and after his service to our country. Rapone, along with his wife, Karen, and Dale Polmateer, a member of the American Legion Honor Guard, recently recognized Tenny in front of her students for all she has done to honor the area’s Veterans.

Rapone credits his wife, the Veterans Administration, and Tenny for getting him to talk about his experiences in the military and working through them once he returned home. “I would never talk about it and then I started coming into Mrs. Tenny’s classes at least 20 years ago,” said Rapone. “And every Veterans Day we are out at the gazebo for a ceremony and she organizes that.”

After 30 years teaching in Hilton Central School District, Tenny will retire this June.
