CES raises money during AHA Kids Heart Challenge

Churchville Elementary School students helped support the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge. Students around the country participate in the Kids Heart Challenge to learn about the importance of heart health, exercise and giving back to others.

During the event, CES students learned the lifelong skill of hands-only CPR and raised funds to help kids with special hearts.

This year’s heart hero is CES kindergartener Ila. She was born with multiple congenital heart defects and underwent her first open-heart surgery at seven days old. After a final surgery when she was 10 months old, Ila has made a full recovery and her heart is fully repaired.

This year, the school raised $23,148 for the event and a few lucky students had the chance to turn CES physical education teachers and the school principals into human ice cream sundaes in celebration.
